Starting New...

Our wonderful, relaxing Christmas has passed and it's time to move on into the new year. Yesterday, while my husband was home to help, we took down all the Christmas decorations and tree. I love them before Christmas, but it's nice to have the additional clutter be gone after! I decided that it was time to do some quilting for charity.

Each year, I sign up with Rosie's Calico Cupboard to quilt for Camp Reach for the Sky. The camp is for children with cancer (they also do a camp for children with siblings who have cancer). Each child who attends either camp receives a quilt of their own to keep. I commit to quilting 12 quilts a year for the children and I donate the batting for them. I try to bind as many as time allows also, although they do have a group of women who bind quilts for them. I pulled out the quilt tops and backings today and found this one which I am posting because I thought it was very unique. I love the way the blocks are all curvy, I thought it was a very cute quilt! It was all made with oriental fabric.

Amy, thanks for telling me how to do links...it worked! :o)

I plan to do one or two more charity quilts before taking on the customer quilt which was just dropped off. That way I can send them to Rosie in California in small batches...it's very expensive to send them all at once, and the box weighs a ton!

I love that quilt - how wonderful for you to donate you time & expertise! Sounds like a wonderful cause. I really like the curved 1 patch & the Oriental fabrics. Once upon a time ago, I thought I was done with Orientals - I am now admonishing myself for being so naieve.... (If I ever decorate, I'll probably do an Oriental room at least...) You are welcome about the links!

Looking forward to seeing more of yours. I do love the donated curvy one..did she intend it to curve, do you think??

Hi, just a quick note to let you know I do quilting for Rosie also. It is so much fun to see the quilts when they arrive. I had a hard time deciding which one to do first so now I just take them out top one first. Love the concept Rosie has going.

Love that oriental quilt. I have a collection of orientals that would be beautiful done like this and I like the curved piecing but doubt I'd have the patience to do it myself!

I had a dream about this quilt last night..... In it, I was piecing a clamshell oriental quilt - saw this and switched over mid-stream (Thinking this was easier than clamshells!)

At first glance I thought it was a "puff" type quilt. Pretty and different.

I"m so glad you mentioned it was curved pieces! I thought at first I was just really tired and not looking at the computer screen right! That is so cool! What a wonderful thing you are doing!

Aw, Carolyn. You are so generous with your time and talents...that's just awesome.

And the quilt...what a great way *not* to cut up some gorgeous fabs into tiny pieces!

Happy New Year to you!
