Stash Busting

My current attempt to bust stash is laying on my sewing room table.
I've cut most of my Thimbleberries (and similar) fabrics into 2.5" strips and plan to make 2 log cabin quilts from them, for the beds in my son's room. So far I've managed to make 6 blocks...I guess it will be a long, cold winter for him if I don't get moving faster! This is the progress I've made so far. I'm pleased with how they're turning out...just need to find more time to make them! Maybe in this stashbusters group we can share ideas on how to squeeze more hours out of the day? :o)

Oh they are looking good Carolyn, and hurray for you being in StashQuilts also..*VBS*.
I have no clue about how to put more hours in the day, but I think sometimes just making the decision..like you did, and cut up the Thimbleberries fabrics gives us a push in the right direction. I'm all excited about those poor holiday orphans again..go figure?

More hours in the day? I'll vote for that!

Love the log cabin blocks . . log cabins are some of my favorite quilts.

Hey, we all need sleep surrogates to get more hours of the day! LOL! Love the blocks - keep going!

Carolyn - they are looking great though! I think you'll get on a roll and they will just start to multply! Your just starting, it will kick in - I hope!

As for more hours to the day - I vote for that, as long as it is more hours for sewing!

It is coming together nicely... Here is how I pieced a log cabin in no time.... First I basically used Quilt in a Day method, but scrappy. First I cut my squares out and sewed them together then pressed them. Then I placed them all in a baggie. I also had the strips in a bigger bag with pins and scissors. During my lunch hour at work, I pinned the next strip to the "2 square" units and roughly cut it with the end of the 2 squares. I piled the neatly and placed them in the baggie that held the 2 squares. At night I sewed them and pressed them. I continued like this until I got my blocks done.

Looking good, Carolyn! Hey...I remember an aspiring young quilter in your house...would she like to help bust a stash? ;-)

I love your logs so far! Maybe son can get Sam to keep him warm? Or, there's probably one quilt in the house that he could use for the time being, hmmm? ;-)

Just a thought: If you get tired of the normal log cabins...you can use more narrow strips for one side (the lights, for instance) and your 2.5" ones for the other side (dark, naturally!). It makes for a way-interesting quilt! Love it! Just thought I'd share....

I'm -- never say never, though -- not in your stash buster group, but it's going to be so fun to watch you all! Good luck!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I love log cabins scrappy! And I think it is so interesting when the lights include some darker mediums.....it adds so much more than just having all 'white on whites' or whatever the light colors are on one side of the blocks!

Log cabin quilts are some of my favorites especially when they are scrappy like this. Looking great! Can't wait to see them finished.
