Waiting...

Sometimes, don't you wonder what it is that gets you through the waiting? I've needed to be distracted for the last few days as I wait for test results. I spent the better part of Monday in the hospital having a biopsy and other procedures done. I never realized how cranky I could get if I'm not allowed to have caffeine or food in the morning. I could have cried when the wonderful nurses brought me a pack of Lorna Doone's after surgery...they were heaven! To keep me busy while waiting to leave for the hospital, I started making these...

Last night, while still waiting for results I put them together into this...

And since I'm still waiting for results, the borders will probably go on today!
I've also started my Christmas quilting, not that I'm doing much this year, so this was finished last week....

And now it's waiting for the customer quilts to be finished so it can have its turn on the longarm.
I'm back to work today, but will anxiously be awaiting word from my daughter after school...yesterday there were rumors swirling that there would be a shooting at her high school today. There was a strong police presence there this morning, many parents kept their kids home from school today. I've just talked to her guidance counselor and all is well so far.
I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have quilting to get me through...
What gets you through?

My gosh, Carolyn, that is a lot to deal with all at once, isn't it? I hope the test results come back fine, and I just don't know what to say about the high school. So frightening. I also am cranky without caffeine and food in the morning and I am SO happy to be back to drinking coffee regularly. ;)

Knitting gets me through. While my mother was dying I knit so much my left shoulder was in constant pain. I kept on knitting.

I try to read to pass the time - and if it is a good enough book it takes me away for a little while. A bad book is just a waste of paper and time.

Actually, truth be told - I am NO GOOD at waiting and hardly anything distracts me.

Daily distractions:
customer quilts
books on tape
caffeine
chocolate

Emergency measures:
cutting up all my scrap fabrics. It has helped tremendously while waiting for news about my parents' hospital stays.

I hope you get all good news, and soon!

Yes, hope your news is good news. And that the school rumor stays a rumor. Life is so different these days!

Yes, quilting does wonders for us.

Such a cute little quilt you are making in this stressful time of waiting.

This school thing is terrible. it goes on all the time in the DC school. Sure glad my children are grown and the grandchildren are practially out.

Keeping my hands busy is the best way for me to pass time - I've kept some sort of handwork available since my grandma first taught me some simple embroidery stitches.
I'll be keeping you in my thoughts for good test results and the safety of all the kids at your daughter's school.

Oh, how scary! Rumor shooting at school?!
Quilting will keep me going too, but cleaning will take over when I'm really stressed.
Take care,
Rhonda

Oh my! So much stress. So glad you have your quilting to help a bit. I know when I am stressed, prayer and quilting keep me from going insane.

Waiting is the pits, but quilting is a good hobbie to help get through the waiting. So sorry you have had so much to deal with. Wishing for a great week for you with wonderful news!!

I had read this post soon after you got it up...and had one of those moments where I just couldn't think of the right words. So much going on for you! I just couldn't imagine how you were dealing.

So...I was hoping and praying and thinking of you...and thought that I'd get back to you...sooner than later. Wow. Was I wrong! It's much later.

How are you Carolyn?! Know that you're still in my thoughts!!!
